Aspen Information

Two frequent questions we get from guests are “How do we get around in Aspen?” and “Is there an Aspen free shuttle?” Today, we are sharing some tips for free transportation options in Aspen and Snowmass.

Aspen Free Shuttle

In the winter Aspen is known for its skiing, surrounded by four fabulous ski areas offering a wide range of terrain:  Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk and Snowmass Ski Resort. During the ski season, as well as some of the summer busy vacation times during the year, all four mountains are accessible by free complimentary shuttle buses that run from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.  COVID protocol: masks are required to utilize the Aspen Free Shuttle.

All shuttles depart from the main Rubey Park bus station, centrally located in the Aspen core ½ block from the Aspen Mountain gondola plaza. When it comes to getting to and from the slopes, the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority bus system in conjunction with SkiCo is the answer. No parking or winter driving hassles involved.

Aspen Dial-A-Ride

For those with tired feet or wanting broader Aspen neighborhood travel, try Aspen’s Dial-A-Ride service. Offering service to two different areas of Aspen, one to the east of town called Mountain Valley that serves residential areas to the east, and one to the west called Highlands that serves Highlands Mountain, the schools and the Aspen Rec Center. Snowmass has a Dial-A-Ride service as well as serving anywhere in Snowmass Village that is not serviced by the Village Shuttle. Like all other shuttle services offered in Aspen. To follow COVID protocol, masks are required.

The Downtowner

For jaunts around Aspen a little further than you would care to walk, or for those unable to make the walk, the City of Aspen offers an electric shuttle service called The Downtowner with heaters and ski racks providing free rides to and from destinations within the city limits. This fun, fresh air door-to-door service runs from 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m. Use the Downtowner app to review the service boundaries and to summon a ride. Or call 877-230-6045.  COVID prevention protocol requires users to wear masks.
