Aspen Events – March and April 2018

First of all, we all know that the snowstorms from February carry over into March and April, making for fantastic spring skiing in Aspen! Along with skiing and snowboarding, there are a number of big events in Aspen to enjoy this March and April!

 

FRIDAYS from March 9 – April 6, enjoy skiing until sunset and then a party at the Sundeck on Aspen Mountain!

2018 Power of Four

MARCH 3, 2018

AUDI POWER OF FOUR SKI MOUNTAINEERING: A 25+ mile ski mountaineering premier endurance race across our four ski areas (running and bike races in the summer round out the Triple Crown). The main race starts at 6:00 a.m. at the Snowmass Base Village, and a second (recreational) Power of TWO race begins at 8:00 a.m. at Highlands.

MARCH 8-11, 2018

APRES SKI COCKTAIL CLASSIC: The Classic features a Grand Tasting Village and Private Reserve Room of high marque spirits, artisanal craft cocktails, seminars by award-winning mixologists and brand ambassadors, snow parties, pop-up bars, demonstrations, fireside chats, spirit-paired dinners, special on-mountain events and The Great Après Ski Pub Crawl.

MARCH 10, 2018

UPHILL: How does a spring ritual of a 3000 foot climb up Aspen Mountain using snowshoes, track skis, telemark skis or alpine touring gear sound to you? Sounds like Aspen to us! The course starts at the Base of Little Nell at Aspen Mountain and ascends 7,945 feet to finish at the Sundeck Restaurant at an elevation of 11,212 feet.

MARCH 11, 2018

BILL NYE: Presented by Mountainfilm, the new chapter of Bill Nye: Science Guy has him traveling to Greenland to examine ice cores, debating prominent creationists and climate change deniers, speaking to college students and reflecting on his own childhood. Wheeler Opera House, 6:30 p.m.

Wild & Scenic Film Fest

MARCH 15, 2018

WILD AND SCENIC FILM FESTIVAL: ACES and Patagonia Snowmass once again host the internationally acclaimed Wild & Scenic Film Festival on Thursday, March 15th at 7PM at the Wheeler Opera House! This special evening will showcase short films that both inform and inspire attendees to take action. This all-ages event will include a cash bar, gear giveaways, and more. Proceeds from the event will benefit ACES’ Tomorrow’s Voices program, which provides civics and environmental leadership education to regional high school students. The mission of Tomorrow’s Voices is to cultivate responsible citizenship and ethical leadership in the youth of the Roaring Fork Valley.

MARCH 21, 2018

ASPEN U SPEAKER SERIES: Brian Dunbar on Healthy, Regenerative Communities: Brian Dunbar is Executive Director of the Institute for the Built Environment (IBE) and Professor Emeritus at Colorado State University. Professor Dunbar holds two degrees in architecture from the University of Michigan and is a LEED Accredited Professional. Professor Dunbar has taught Interior Design, Construction Management, and Sustainability courses at Colorado State and created the graduate emphasis in sustainable building, professional certification courses in green building, and sustainable design and construction courses offered in Costa Rica and on the island of St. John, USVI.

Aspen Cares Fashion Show

MARCH 22, 2018

ASPEN CARES THEATRICAL FASHION SHOW: This one-night-only theatrical show weaves fashion, dance, movement, music and story into a seamless choreographed performance. Donated fashions from high-end designers to streetwear lines are used as costuming for the models, dancers and actors as they present on-trend fashions to Aspen, while raising money for mental health. The beneficiary of this theatrical extravaganza is the Aspen Hope Center whose mission is to extend a beacon of hope to those in emotional crisis, providing suicide prevention services and care to those in need, in and around the Aspen, CO area.

GRAND TRAVERSE: At the strike of midnight, skiers depart Crested Butte traversing the Elk Mountain Range by night, propelling them to a dawn finish in Aspen! Distance: 40 miles; Elevation Gain: 6,800+ feet; Finishing Times: 7-16 hours.

MARCH 23 – APRIL 1, 2018

BUD LIGHT SPRING JAM: The 17th annual Bud Light Spring Jam, the premier spring festival in the Rocky Mountains, will bring two weeks of competitions, downtown concerts and parties to Aspen Snowmass. This will mark the 5th year of the Banked Slalom snowboard race at Buttermilk, the 17th year of the KickAspen Big Air at Aspen Mountain and the return of the Colorado Collegiate Freeride Championships at Snowmass.

ASPEN FILM SHORTSFEST: Recognized as one of the premier short film festivals in the world, this Oscar®-qualifying festival embraces diverse sensibilities and subjects that capture the zeitgeist of today’s world. Filmmakers from around the globe attend Shortsfest each spring to share their work, speak with audiences, and attend panel discussions about the art of filmmaking. Following in the tradition of Shortsfest official selections going on to Oscar® success, Bear Story (Chile) won the Oscar® for Best animated Short Film in 2016, and We Can’t Live Without Cosmos (Russian Federation) and Shok (Republic of Kosovo/UK) were nominated.
