Aspen FIS World Cup

By February 8, 2017Skiing

The town of Aspen and its residents are more than excited to be hosting the 2017 World Cup Finals this year! The Finals will be the first outside Europe since 1997 and the return of men’s World Cup in Aspen for first time since 2001.

So what exactly is The World Cup? The Audi FIS Ski World Cup is a schedule of high caliber ski races; assembled by the International Ski Federation sponsored by Audi. The season runs from October-March, the duration of the winter ski season. The top 30 finishers in each race receive points based on how well they place. At the end of the season, World Cup titles are awarded at the World Cup Finals to the male and female skiers who have racked up the most points in each of four disciplines: Downhill, Super G, Giant Slalom and Slalom. Overall World Cup titles are also given out.

All races will be held on Aspen Mountain and viewing will be available both along the course and at the finish arena.  The course design provides great sight lines for both races along with a big screen, timing board and live commentary. With feels of an Olympic event, The World Cup International Village will be located in the heart of Aspen at Wagner Park. Activities, parties, international cuisine and concerts will be scheduled from Wednesday through Sunday that can be enjoyed by everyone. It will be an event and party not to be missed!

Artistic creations, designed by local artists and students, which celebrate the spirit, history and international talent synonymous with Aspen ski racing, will be on display throughout the week in downtown Aspen. You will notice odes to the event all throughout town, including some of the revamped gondola buckets! We hope you will join us!
